In the days following last weekend’s “March for Our Lives” demonstrations held in Washington, D.C., and other cities around the country, it became increasingly obvious to everyone except a lone CNN host what the real purpose of the protests was: Get rid of the right to keep and bear arms.
If you recall, the original purpose of the marches was to highlight the problem of school shootings and ‘raise awareness’ so that ‘solutions could be found.’ But that’s not at all how they turned out.
Instead, they became platforms for the Alt-Left to call not just for more gun control, but an outright ban on guns altogether.
Several people at a number of events were spotted with signs making it very plain that they weren’t marching for ‘gun control,’ they were marching for gun confiscations and a repeal of the Second Amendment.
“Okay, we WILL pry it from your cold dead hands!” said one sign. “Yes, I do want to take away your guns*,” followed by, “*You can keep your muskets.”
“The right to bear arms is antiquated REPEAL THE 2ND AMENDMENT NOW,” said another.
Only, CNN host Chris Cuomo denied that anyone really felt that way — despite his own network’s reporting to the contrary.
Someone named “Gwen S” tweeted, “@ChrisCuomo let’s face it. Far right want abortion stopped and far left want guns banned and 2nd amendment repealed. If media did their job and put aside their bias they would be able to do their jobs and ask the vital questions.”
To which Cuomo responded, “this is a lot of bunk. no one calling for 2A repeal. stop with the bogeymen. we need to stop the shootings and have a rational conversation about what can be done.” (Related: What? Ex-Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens calls for REPEAL of the Second Amendment.)
Needless to say, Cuomo’s outright lie drew instant and massive blowback from the Twitter sewer.
Many of those respondents included a link to an op-ed piece in The New York Times (of course) written by former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens who — very openly and very clearly — called for repealing the “relic” Second Amendment. The piece even came with a graphic — an 18th-century musket with a modern AR-15-style carbine underneath. Dramatic.
“Concern that a national standing army might pose a threat to the security of the separate states led to the adoption of that amendment, which provides that ‘a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.’ Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century,” he wrote.
“Bunk,” Mr. Cuomo? Not at all. Like I said, even your own network reported on it, citing Stevens’ op-ed.
“Your [sic] either completely ignorant or purposely lying if you legitimately believe no-one’s Calling for repeal. It’s all over social media. Plenty of left-leaning media sites have contributors calling for it. Why lie about something so easily disproved?” wrote one Twitter inhabitant.
Eventually, Cuomo did get around to reading Stevens’ piece, but tried to downplay it. “he is a retired justice who was talking about ways to get quick legal change on access to weapons. he is not an elected official or part of any effort to repeal 2A. it is a bogeyman to keep people scared and as such resistant to ways to stop the shootings,” he wrote.
In reality, what’s going on is the Democrat-supporting Cuomo is attempting to put the genie back in the bottle that Stevens so publicly let out: The Democratic Left wants America’s guns, always has, and will not stop until they get them, even if it means civil war.
Just like Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., admitted in 1995.
