A travesty of justice occurred of monumental proportions, but only the most hard-core Leftist won’t see it that way. In fact, they’ll see it as some warped version of a ‘moral victory’ in ensuring that ‘justice’ was served for a minority.
A San Francisco jury acquitted Jose Ines Garcia Zarate — a citizen of Mexico — on Thursday in the killing of Kate Steinle, 32, on July 1, 2015, with a .40 cal. handgun he had stolen from the car of a Department of the Interior agent. In an outcome that shocked even local media, which appear — based on their after-verdict reporting — to have expected a verdict that Garcia Zarate was guilty of murder, the jury in this case only saw fit to find the defendant guilty of a gun crime.
How typical for the Left-wing lunatics who not only live in San Francisco but who tolerate the illegality of the “sanctuary city” policy responsible for Steinle’s death.
As The National Sentinel reported, the jury, which had been deliberating since Nov. 21, failed to find Garcia Zarate guilty of murder or even the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter with a deadly weapon. Instead, all they could see was the gun (which, again, was stolen from a federal agent), so the defendant was convicted on the charge of being a felon in possession of a gun.
Not much solace or comfort in that for Kate’s father, Jim, who was walking along the popular Pier 14 with his daughter when she was shot. She died hours later, the bullet having nicked her aorta.
Telling local media he was “saddened and shocked” by the decision, he added: “Justice was rendered, but it was not served.”
No, not by a long shot. (Related: Sanctuary for MURDER, but only if you’re an illegal: San Francisco jury grants immunity to illegal alien who admits shooting Kate Steinle.)
Digging into the exposed raw nerve of the national psyche following the jury’s acquittal, the defendant’s lawyer, Matt Gonzalez, made sure to make the most disgusting, morally reprehensible statement he could think of: Deflect the injustice of it all by bringing up Trump.
“For those who might criticize this verdict — there are a number of people who have commented on this case in the last couple of years …. Let me just remind them they are themselves under investigation by a special prosecutor in Washington, D.C. and they may soon avail themselves of the presumption of innocence beyond a reasonable doubt, so I ask that they reflect on that before they comment or disparage the results of this case,” Gonzales said.
Mr. Gonzalez, there is a descriptor I would very much love to use here to describe what I think of you, but due to our editorial standards, I’m not permitted to write it. So suffice to say, I’m not one of your biggest fans.
As for Garcia Zapate, there is much more blame to go around for his murderous presence in our country that just San Fran’s sanctuary city policy. There is the culpability of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department, which released him from custody under the policy even though federal immigration officers had requested he be detained for deportation. Surely there’s a lawsuit somewhere in that irresponsible act.
There is also political culpability.
Talk radio legend Michael Savage, who has long advocated for stronger borders and internal enforcement of laws against illegal immigration, expressed his disgust in a short podcast on his website.
“I am unable to tell you the level of my disgust with Nancy Pelosi, with the whole illiberal criminal establishment. I think they should be arrested for what they’ve done. They killed this young woman,” he said.
“Not only was this illegal alien piece of sh*t not found guilty for murder, but this illegal alien piece of sh*t, who has been deported five times, was not even found guilty of manslaughter,” he continued.
“So, let me ask all you good progressives a question,” Savage continued, “What if God forbid, a white man had shot a Mexican woman to death, and he was not found guilty on any charge? I want to ask you what would have happened in the streets of this sick, disgusting, degenerate city that I live in?”
A miscarriage of justice has occurred. Godspeed to the Trump administration in its efforts to end sanctuary cities and hold those responsible for implementing them.
