A lawmaker who was one of six GOP colleagues found on a “hit list” belonging to an unhinged Left-wing shooter who attempted to mass assassinate Republican congressmen last week says the attack is just the latest evidence of a “militant Left” that is becoming increasingly violent.
Appearing on Breitbart News Radio recently, Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., said he was among the half-dozen Republicans on a list compiled by shooter James T. Hodgkinson that was discovered after he was shot and killed following his attack on GOP lawmakers at an early-morning softball practice in northern Virginia. The GOP leadership’s No. 3 figure, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., was critically wounded in the attack.
The Daily Caller was the first news outlet to report the existence of the hit list, which was discovered by the FBI. The news site reported that the list has since been confirmed by federal officials and lawmakers, including Franks, adding that it “has been fairly accurately characterized” in the media.
Noting that the Hodgkinson attack appeared “premeditated,” Franks said “we have devolved to a great point in our society now,” adding we are “to the point where the militant Left is out there to the extent that they are willing to shoot people” whom they disagree with politically.
“The militant left here has been outrageous. It’s not conservatives that are going out there burning cars and turning them upside down in universities just because someone is speaking. It’s not the conservatives that are saying ‘pigs in a blanket’ and advocating for the killing of police officers,” he added. “It’s not the conservatives that are shooting people in the baseball field. This militant left is out of control and I think that the so-called moderates should stand up and eschew this and really call them out in a flagrant way.” (RELATED: Recent attack against Republican congressmen make it clear the violent Left is the new domestic terrorism threat: Be aware and be prepared)
The attempted assassinations were just the latest in a string of Alt-Left violence targeting conservative figures and Republican lawmakers. Others include:
— Town hall events led by Republican lawmakers marred with yelling and physical violence, as well as tires being slashed in parking lots
— GOP lawmakers receiving death threats over their support for repealing and replacing Obamacare
— Conservative speakers physically threatened and their supporters physically assaulted, along with rioting, on some college campuses — if their events are not canceled outright by administrators
— Free speech events have been marred by counter-protesting violence
Some Republicans have said they are going to cancel their town hall events because they are being hijacked by angry Left-wing protestors.
Despite this, and despite the fact that Hodgkinson specifically singled out Republicans for murder, many in the disgustingly dishonest “mainstream” media and Democratic lawmakers have tried to blame Republicans for the vitriol.
For instance, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., blamed GOP attacks on Bill and Hillary Clinton as partly to blame for the current hostile political climate.
“It didn’t used to be this way,” she said recently, as reported by The Daily Caller. “Somewhere in the 1990s Republicans decided on the politics of personal destruction as they went after the Clintons and that is what started and it has continued,” she claimed, borrowing a Democrat talking point (‘politics of personal destruction’) from the era.
Meanwhile, pathetic Left-wing MSNBC host Joy Reid actually had the temerity to attack Scalise as he lay unconscious and in critical condition in the hospital. She portrayed him as some kind of extremist for essentially holding traditional Republican political positions.
Reid attacked Scalise for speaking to several groups about tax reform in 2002, one of which turned out to be white nationalists. Three years ago he explained he had no idea who all of the groups were, and that he detested “any kind of hate group.”
He was believed by at least one Democratic member of Congress, Rep. Cedric Richmond, who’s black: “I don’t think Steve Scalise has a racist bone in his body.”
